DVD Shrink is a versatile freeware tool for fitting a DVD-Video disc on a single DVDR disc.
DVD Shrink is capable of both re-authoring and re-encoding the movie. It features an intuitive user interface which makes it easy to choose what to keep, and what to lose.
DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.
DVD Shrink is a great program for compressing your "backup" copy of a DVD to fit onto a single layer DVD (DVDR), yet if compressed too far down can cause quality issues.
With DVD Shrink comes many good features:
Removing unwanted features
Shrinking
Burning
Encoding
By removing your unwanted features from a DVD you can significantly chop out a chunk of the DVD which will help you keep quality and get the movie the way you want it. With shrinking it you can compress any DVD9 down to a DVDR; If it just simply won't compress down any further and you've given up all hopes and doubts, there is no need to worry. Chances are that if you try the technique given you can still accomplish this. Check it!
Shrink and make the .iso file ignoring the programs warning that it won't fit on the DVD. Mount the .iso image that DVD shrink just made on a virtual drive, such as Nero or Daemon tools virtual drive. Choose the virtual drive as the new DVD to shrink, and reshrink it. Of course you will need to place the output for this file somewhere else, or rename it so there' conflict.
Now to the encoding part...
If you chose to burn the DVD immediately, DVD Shrink will begin burning automatically after the encoding is done. If not, then your ISO image or prepared VIDEO_TS folder is available for burning after the encoding process.
This is definitely a 5 star program that has earned its place among all DVD Fanatics. I personally have never had an error, besides user error and also there are no problems with compatibility with Windows Vista. So check this program out when you're stuck.
