It features an intuitive user interface which makes it easy to choose what to keep, and what to lose.

DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning.

DVD Shrink is a great program for compressing your "backup" copy of a DVD to fit onto a single layer DVD (DVDR), yet if compressed too far down can cause quality issues.

With DVD Shrink comes many good features:

Removing unwanted features
Shrinking
Burning
Encoding

By removing your unwanted features from a DVD you can significantly chop out a chunk of the DVD which will help you keep quality and get the movie the way you want it. With shrinking it you can compress any DVD9 down to a DVDR; If it just simply won't compress down any further and you've given up all hopes and doubts, there is no need to worry. Chances are that if you try the technique given you can still accomplish this. Check it!

Shrink and make the .iso file ignoring the programs warning that it won't fit on the DVD. Mount the .iso image that DVD shrink just made on a virtual drive, such as Nero or Daemon tools virtual drive. Choose the virtual drive as the new DVD to shrink, and reshrink it. Of course you will need to place the output for this file somewhere else, or rename it so there' conflict.

Now to the encoding part...
If you chose to burn the DVD immediately, DVD Shrink will begin burning automatically after the encoding is done. If not, then your ISO image or prepared VIDEO_TS folder is available for burning after the encoding process.

This is definitely a 5 star program that has earned its place among all DVD Fanatics. I personally have never had an error, besides user error and also there are no problems with compatibility with Windows Vista. So check this program out when you're stuck.

For further questions and comments, comment :)

"Italia UMTS Flying in the net!." Italia UMTS. 2004. It was designed for people who know very little about video conversion. It includes everything you need to rip DVD to DivX/Xvid in very easy-to-use interface. By including all of this it allows people who may not be as good at the better more complicated procedures of ripping "backing up" a DVD.

Program features support of:
- DVD/VOBs(unencrypted from hdd), MPEG2, MPEG1, transport streams (including multi-program ones) and AVI/DV input sources
- XviD or DivX(5/6) output formats
- AC3, DTS, PCM, MPA input audio tracks
- AC3, DTS, MPA, CBR/VBR MP3 output audio tracks
- two audio tracks in AVI
- external (vobsub) or internal (burnt-in) subtitles (with support of forced subs)
- HDTV input/output resolutions(upto 1920x***) and frame rates (50/60fps)
- automatic crop and resize based on compressibility of the source to achieve best results
- automatic detection of input source: PAL, NTSC, FILM, HYBRID
- automatic deinterlacer and IVTC
- automatic split into CD-sized chunks for main video and external subs

Not much to say about this one but from all reviews I have seen it seems to be the overall best for a NOOB (sorry to use the harshness of that word but face it we were all there once). This time ImgBurn which is currently at v2.4.1.0. Included is CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray; this is very lightweight, no extra junk to slow down your prize computer. The only response to that comment is nay.

As of June 6, 2005 the author of DVD Decrypter announced that version 3.5.4.0 will be the last of the series of DVD Decrypter due to legal issues. To read more about that you can visit the link here.

Although it was a great DVD protection circumventing tool, it will soon be of no use with the continuous advance in technology. With DVD Decrypter in default, automatically select the source (DVD drive) and the destination folder (Finds the drive with the most free space), and the 'Main Movie' files will be selected for you. Then all that had to be done for those that are not to technically savvy had to do was press the rip button. This was a very user-friendly program, and also still had option available for the more tech savvy people.

Known Files to Rip as:

.VOB
.IFO
.ISO

I will admit I have not further explored all the options of this program. Yet see no reason to do so, since it is already out of date and will continue to grow obsolete.

Overall this software comes out with a 0 out of 5 stars in my ranking since there will be no more updates. But a good 4 out of 5 if it were to be continuously updated. If you feel so obligated to go ahead and use this, by all means feel free.

UPDATE:Can Not backup the new protection on DVDs: ARccOS and RipGuard DVD

For further questions and help leave a comment :)

Image From:http://www.tomshw.it/articles/20051129/dvd_decrypter_logo.gif

Slysoft - AnyDVD

AnyDVD - a MUST have

Slysoft makes many programs but by far the one that seems to be most valuable would be AnyDVD. AnyDVD allows the easy removal of any copy-protections and encryptions on any DVD. Thus giving you the ability to copy a DVD to your HDD. Also as soon as you insert a disc works in the background to remove the copy-protections, allowing you to easily backup the movie with the tool of your choice. Also, are you tired of watching those STUPID trailers and FBI warnings? Well your in luck because when you use AnyDVD it allows you the option to edit out these. It also includes many other features that I have not mentioned, but definitely worth the purchase.

It is pretty easy to get started, download a free trial(21 days free, No restrictions) of AnyDVD or purchase it for about $74.42. Which is a fair price when it comes down to "backing up your DVDs". This is an all around great program, I would give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

After downloading, simply install, and reboot. Once rebooted it should start up when you log in, try inserting a DVD to your DVD drive. If you want to rip this to your HDD, click on the AnyDVD tray icon and select "rip VideoDVD to Harddisk". It should automatically select the correct drive, if not simply select the drive with the DVD. Notice: that next to the DVD drive it will show the name of the DVD. Select the output folder, click start, and find yourself something else to do; it could take a while!

Just something to talk about... the trial version, although no restrictions, will not save your preferences after the program shuts down, so to avoid this just don't shut down. Simple as that.

But now you may be wondering with all this new technology, such as Blu Ray and HD-DVD (as of February 28 will no longer be in production) how to make copies of those discs for "backup". Well SlySoft has out done their selves again, by making an add on to be able to remove the protection from the Blu Ray Discs. SlySoft was the first to offer AACS circumvention that worked for any disc available; previous programs only cracked "compatible" discs using a database of known keys. On November 8, 2007, SlySoft claimed to have completely cracked BD+ (previously said to be unbreakable for "at least 10 years"). More to come about this AnyDVD HD add-on, which roughly costs about $44.58.

For further questions and help leave a comment :)

Image from: http://wwwsolfware.blogspot.com/2007/05/slysoft-anydvd-6133.html
